In today’s evolving battlefield, countering the threat of uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) has never been more critical. Recognizing this need, Dedrone by Axon has partnered with Thales Australia to deliver the next-generation of counter-UAS (C-UAS) capabilities, designed to provide warfighters with unmatched situational awareness and protection from malicious drones. This powerful collaboration brings forth a vehicle-mounted, C-UAS solution, able to detect, track, identify, and mitigate (DTI-M) Group 1-3 UAS threats while On-The-Move (OTM).
This groundbreaking partnership integrates two battle-proven solutions: DedroneOnTheMove (DedroneOTM), mobile C-UAS DTI-M system, with Thales Australia’s tactical protected mobility vehicles (PMV). By equipping Thales’ Bushmaster PMV with Dedrone’s passive radio frequency (RF) detection sensors powered by DedroneTracker.AI, defense forces gain real-time airspace awareness and advanced mitigation capabilities against drone threats.
Through extensive testing conducted near Thales Australia’s Bendigo, Victoria facility, Dedrone and Thales successfully demonstrated the ability to detect, track, identify and mitigate Group 1 & 2 UAS from various drone manufacturers while OTM in the Thales Bushmaster PMV. This partnership adds an extra layer of protection for our troops, ensuring that military personnel can maneuver safely on the battlefield without the risk of drone attacks. This C-UAS solution can be easily retrofitted to any PMV already in service.
DedroneOTM is a vehicle agnostic, mobile C-UAS solution based around Dedrone’s award winning, artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) enabled command and control (C2) software, DedroneTracker.AI. The ruggedized system provides the vehicle's occupants with the ability to DTI-M Group 1-3 UAS from a moving vehicle. This vehicle-agnostic, open architecture system provides vehicle occupants with real-time knowledge of what is happening in the surrounding airspace and allows the flexibility to integrate a variety of kinetic and non-kinetic mitigation solutions that can be directed autonomously by DeddroneTracker.AI.
Dedrone by Axon is a trusted name in counter-drone solutions and is deployed across 33 countries in six of the G-7 nation governments. With installations spanning over 926 sites, including 53 airports and 64 entertainment venues, as well as deployments across 17 U.S. federal entities and 30 non-U.S. government agencies, Dedrone continues to lead the charge in providing advanced airspace security solutions.
“We are incredibly honored to partner with Thales Australia in providing high-performance solutions for today’s military environments,” said Aaditya Devarakonda, CEO of Dedrone by Axon. “By combining our mobile counter-UAS technology with their state-of-the-art protected mobility combat platforms, we provide warfighters with the ability to effectively maneuver on the battlefield, all while having increased situational awareness and mitigation capabilities against the asymmetric threat of small UAS.”
With drone warfare playing a pivotal role in modern conflicts, especially as seen in Ukraine, this collaboration ensures military forces worldwide remain equipped with state-of-the-art defensive solutions. Thales Australia’s Bushmaster PMV has been deployed across nine nations, including Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Ukraine, demonstrating its battle-proven durability and adaptability. The Bushmaster’s proven survivability in combat environments, including its superior armor and advanced sensor systems, has made it a highly sought-after military asset.
Thales Australia continues to enhance the Bushmaster platform with a suite of upgrades, including left-hand drive options, digital displays, detachable armor modules, electric doors, winter kits for extreme conditions, and new engine, drive, and axle configurations. The addition of Dedrone’s counter-drone capabilities further solidifies the Bushmaster’s reputation as a leading protected mobility vehicle capable of responding to evolving battlefield threats.
“We’re excited to partner together with Dedrone by Axon to bring this important innovation to the battlefield,” said Jeff Connolly, CEO of Thales Australia. “We've watched the changes in modern warfare in Ukraine, taken the lessons learned there, and together with Dedrone, built them into the Bushmaster. It is ensuring the PMV is fit for purpose for both current and future conflicts – a modern vehicle with advanced capabilities.”
Future-Proofing Military Defense
Both Dedrone by Axon and Thales Australia provide battle-proven, combat-ready solutions to the modern warfighter. By combining Dedrone’s expertise in C-UAS technology with Thales Australia’s mobility platforms, this partnership establishes a new benchmark for counter-drone protection and PMV capabilities on the battlefield. As drone threats continue to evolve, Dedrone by Axon and Thales Australia remain at the forefront, ensuring warfighters have cutting-edge, adaptable solutions to meet the challenges of modern warfare head-on.
