Marine Corps Marathon
Public Safety
30,000
Washington DC
The 49th Annual Marine Corps Marathon confronted the considerable task of safeguarding 30,000 runners within one of the nation’s most sensitive airspaces. This effort required coordinating operations across several Virginia agencies, including Arlington County Police Department, to manage the airspace effectively. The primary objective was to prevent any unauthorized drone activity and facilitate the seamless operation of security drones during the event.
Arlington County Police Department decided to use a DedroneRapidResponse counter-drone trailer, to detect both unauthorized and authorized drone activities. Powered by DedroneTracker.AI, law enforcement was able to monitor the real-time locations of 15 different drones (and their pilots) from various drone manufacturers. Dedrone provided the coordinating agencies with crucial situational awareness and significantly augmented traditional radio communication.
The implementation of the DedroneRapidResponse counter-drone trailer at the Marine Corps Marathon significantly bolstered security and situational awareness. It enabled law enforcement to maintain the safety of participants effectively and the success of this initiative highlighted the critical role of innovative solutions in maintaining public safety at large-scale, open-air events.
No Federal or Marine Corps Endorsement Implied.
Dedrone was quick and easy to deploy and provided us with the capability to safely coordinate multiple simultaneous drone flights effectively in the nation’s most restricted and sensitive airspace.
